Moonsighting: Eid-ul-Fitr and Start of Shawwal 1442

There was NO confirmed moon-sighting reports in the evening of Wednesday, 12 May 2021. As such, the month of Blessed Ramadan 1442 in South Africa will end with 30 days, on Thursday, 13 May 2020.

Consequently, the United Ulama Council of South Africa (UUCSA) has determined that in South Africa, the 1st of Shawwaal 1442, the day of Eid-ul-Fitr Mubarak, corresponds to Friday 14 May 2021.

The Jamiatul Ulama South Africa’s Central Hilaal Committee acts on behalf of UUCSA in the coordination of the sighting of the moon.

In the light and spirit of the Sunnah, we appeal to jamaats to go out and seek the sighting of the new moon every month. The next sighting of the moon for the determination of the start of Dhu al Qa’da 1442 shall be after sunset on Monday, 11th June 2021, in-sha-Allah.

We wish all Muslims, the world over, Eid-ul-Fitr Mubarak! May the Almighty accept our fasts, acts of devotion and worship. Aameen.

Wassalaam.
