Kindness | The Call of the Time

From the Noble Qur’an and through various Prophetic Sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam traditions, we have been commanded to enjoin what is good and virtuous while forbidding what is evil and vicious. There are moments when specific acts of virtue are more meritorious that at other times. The call of the hour is to reach to one another with kindness.

Many in our communities are struggling with poor health, mourning loss of loved ones and under states of intense emotional anguish and distress. Our response should encompass empathy, compassion, understanding and sensitivity.

The Noble Prophet Sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam is reported to have said: “Kindness is a mark of faith; and he who is not kind, does not have faith.” (Muslim) From the Noble Qur’an, the Almighty says: “(Musa) Speak to him (Firaun) gently, perhaps he may be mindful of Me or fearful of My punishment.” (20:44)

Using ways that are appropriate under the current circumstances, let us help to comfort each other, share in provisions with the needy, and remain prayerful, so that distress and pain give way to hope and healing. Let your calling to what is right be noble and gentle; and let your prevention of harm be without harm and sin.

May the Almighty take away our sorrows, grant cure to the sick at home and in hospitals, comfort the bereaving families and forgive the souls of those who have departed from our midst.

O Almighty, Lord of the Worlds! Only You can take away the suffering from humanity. We turn to you, O Almighty! Forgive us in our transgressions and shower Your Eternal Mercy upon all of us. (Aameen)
