The Jamiatul Ulama South Africa has appointed Hilaal Committees in every town under its jurisdiction to sight the moon and determine the Islamic Date. Communication with these communities is maintained on a monthly basis. On the important occasions of Ramadan and Eid, Radio annoucements are arranged to inform the Muslim community accordingly. Regular and timeous notification regarding the birth and sighting of the moon are sent to in excess of 500 recipients, electronically and by post.
The Jamiatul Ulama South Africa also serves as the central co-ordinator between Ulama bodies for national crescent sightings on behalf of the United Ulama Council of South Africa.
