Following confirmed reports of the sighting of the #Hilaal marking the start of #Muharram, the United Ulama Council of South Africa (UUCSA) has determined that, in South Africa, the month of Dhu al Hijjah and the year 1442 has ended this evening of Monday 09 August 2021. This means 1st Muharram 1443, the start of the new Hijri Year shall correspond to Tue 10 August 2021.

 

The Day of Aashura corresponding  to 10 Muharram 1443 will therefore be on Thursday 19 August 2021.  in-sha-Allah.

 

The Jamiatul Ulama South Africa’s Central Hilaal Committee acts on behalf of UUCSA in the coordination of the sighting of the moon.
