Ways to Give

Types of Donation

Lillah

General charity given purely for the pleasure of Allah. Lillah can be used for any aspect of JUSA's work including education, administration, welfare programmes and operations. No restrictions apply.

Sadaqah

Voluntary charity for specified causes. You may direct your Sadaqah to a particular project – humanitarian aid, Palestine relief, education support or needy families. Please specify your preference in the reference.

Zakaat

Zakaat is a mandatory pillar of Islam. JUSA distributes Zakaat to eligible recipients (the 8 categories). We ensure your Zakaat reaches those truly deserving. Please mark your payment clearly as "Zakaat".

Important: Zakaat cannot be used for operational expenses or non-eligible beneficiaries. Please clearly label Zakaat payments. For Zakaat-related queries, contact our Fatwa Department.

Where Your Zakaah Goes

Welfare Programmes

After careful consideration and due procedures, the Welfare Department of the Jamiatul Ulama South Africa facilitates the distribution of Zakaah funds and other charities entrusted to them by the Muslim community. The following programmes form the various avenues for the distribution of these charities.

Bursary Fund

Students from challenged backgrounds who wish to pursue tertiary studies in specific fields are afforded bursaries to pursue the same.

Widows Fund

Vulnerable women and widows who have no bread winner to provide an income for the household are supplemented with different forms of aid on a monthly basis.

Debt Relief & Grants

Under overwhelming and deserving circumstances, debt relief is granted to a limited extent to persons who apply for such assistance.

Rental Aid

Needy and unemployed persons who apply for relief with rental bills are assisted for a specific period of time should they meet the criteria outlined.

Medical Assistance

Patients who are unable to afford medical bills are supported to acquire medication and other allied services which are beyond their financial means.

Grocery Hampers

According to the size of the family and the extent of need, hampers containing basic food items are distributed monthly to deserving families.

Applications are assessed by the Welfare Committee and must be submitted with the required supporting documents. How to apply →
